After arriving in Bulgaria and clearing customs and immigration, we were whisked off to Паначище (Panichishte), a small village in the Rila Mountains in southwest Bulgaria. The combination of a full schedule, jetlag, and difficulties adjusting to the altitude left me with neither the time nor the energy to properly explore the surrounding pine forests. But as you can see, it was quite a scenic area and a nice introduction to the Bulgaria landscape.
